When this trip works
The south coast sets the window: dry and swimmable December to April, rough from May. The hills are clearest in February and March, which makes late winter the best of both. December and January work, with the caveat that the Udawalawe afternoon on the way south is still coming out of the northeast monsoon.
October — out of season

Who this is for
- Travellers who want the hill country by train and the south coast in one trip
And who it is not
- Visitors between May and September, when the south coast is rough; ask about the eastern alternative
- Travellers who want the Cultural Triangle; Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa are not on this route and squeezing them in would break its whole premise
Included
- Private vehicle and driver-guide throughout
- Nine nights accommodation
- Breakfast and dinner daily
- Nanu Oya to Haputale train
- Udawalawe game drive (day 7)
- Whale watching (day 9)
- All entrance fees marked included above
Not included
- International flights
- Travel insurance
- Visa or ETA
Make it yours
This is a starting shape, not a fixed departure. The changes people ask for most:
- Add two nights at Tangalle for a quieter final stretch
- Swap Ella for Nuwara Eliya if you prefer mist and cold to warmth
- Add the Cultural Triangle at the front and it becomes a fourteen-day trip
