When this trip works

Built around the Cultural Triangle and Kandy, so it dodges the worst of both monsoons and never depends on the sea. February and March are clearest. April and May are punishingly hot on the rock, the southwest monsoon puts afternoon cloud over the hills from June, and October and November are the wet inter-monsoon. None of those close the route: they make it cheaper, quieter and a morning-start trip rather than an all-day one.

October — mixed, worth a conversation

It is October now, and this route reads mixed this month.

Make it yours

This is a starting shape, not a fixed departure. The changes people ask for most:

  • Swap the Kandy nights for Nuwara Eliya if tea country matters more than the temple
  • Add three nights on the south coast to turn this into the ten-day route
  • Move the Sigiriya climb to Pidurangala if 1,200 steps is not realistic
